Commissions - How do they work?

I would be so excited to create a custom painting for you. You can read through the details below to help with your commission enquiry, which you can submit at the end of this page.

Style

I specialise in watercolour and oil paintings. I use watercolour and gouache for my scientific art, and I use oil for paintings of couples, seascapes and other abstract art. Oil paintings take a longer time to dry so please consider this when enquiring.

If you would like me to paint a particular picture you love, it would be ideal if you can provide a clear and high quality image of it, this will make it a lot easier for me to paint it as accurate as possible. I am happy to combine photos for you or remove elements of a photo, i.e. you like the background of one photo but the foreground of another one, I can often make it happen depending on the lighting and surrounding.

Size

Typical sizes for scientific illustrations (watercolour art) are A5 and A4, however I can do any size you like, providing I can find the right paper size :) For any other art (seascapes, abstract or custom) I will use 100% cotton canvas that come in a huge variety of sizes. It is up to you what size you would like, however if you have no preference I can give you advice according to your enquiry. Please see the price guidelines below.

Price

Each painting is unique and the time it takes me to paint them hugely varies between style, detail, difficulty and materials. If you would like me to prioritise your commission because you would like it for a certain date, please be aware that this might affect the overall price depending on my current commission load. But please don’t worry, we can discuss all of this in more detail :)

My prices are in GBP (£).

Price examples for oil originals:

10x10cm canvas: £80+

Circular 20cm diameter canvas: £200+

A4 (21 × 29.7 cm) canvas: £200+

A3 (29.7 x 42 cm) canvas: £400+

Anything larger: £500+

Price examples for watercolour originals:

A5: £100+

A4: £150+

A3: £200+

Deposit & Payment

I kindly ask for a 50% deposit before I begin creating your original. However, if for some personal reason I am unable to finish your commission I will give you a full refund as soon as possible.

Once I finish your commission, and for bigger pieces sometimes throughout, I will send you a photo via email or our chosen communication platform to make sure you are happy with it. This is the time where you can request any final changes. Once you are happy with it, I will kindly ask for the remaining 50% of the full price, as well as shipping costs, to be paid before I then send the commission to you.

You can pay me via bank transfer to my UK bank account or use PayPal, in which case please choose ‘Gift’ or ‘Friends and Family’ to avoid additional transaction fees. If these payment methods aren’t possible for you, we can discuss potential alternatives. Please note there may be transaction fees for international payments which are out of my control.

Delivery

Delivery prices are dependent on size and weight of the commission. I will ask what delivery option you would prefer, but I usually send everything via a tracked and insured service. Potential delays once it is with the courier as well as customs charges in countries outside of the UK are unfortunately out of my control.

Refunds

Due to the nature of custom artwork, I hope you understand I can not accept refunds. This is why I will always make sure you are fully happy with the art piece before asking for your final payment.
