For the Manta Trust’s and Manta Catalog Azores’ 2025 expedition to the Azores, I designed custom buffs inspired by the sicklefin devil ray (Mobula tarapacana). The Azores is one of the only places on earth where these mysterious and stunning rays gather in large groups each summer, offering scientists a rare chance to study them. I wanted the artwork to capture both their grace and their power, while making sure the expedition team had a cool, uniform look. The buffs became a practical gear for the team out at sea. What I loved most is hearing all the stories of how much everyone loved the buffs and that some of the buffs were gifted to the boat crew and fishers who apparently absolutely loved them.
