ART RESIDENCY AT SIX SENSES LAAMU, MALDIVES

Over three incredible weeks at Six Senses Laamu in October and November 2025, I had the joy of teaching more than 65 guests of all ages—from curious 4-year-olds to enthusiastic adults—how to paint the amazing marine life and ocean seascapes of the Maldives. It was incredibly special to return to the island which I called home for three years while working as marine biologist as part of the Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) team. Many kind and familiar faces welcomed us back and it felt as if we never left within a few days :) Only this time I switched my dive and research gear for paintbrushes and canvases.

By combining my passion for marine life, research and art I was able to teach guests more about Laamu’s beautiful marine life and other ocean wonders while teaching them step-by-step painting techniques, from sketching with proportion, layering colours to capturing textures, shadows and fine details.

It was wonderful to see families and friends creating together—children, mothers, dads, teenagers - beginners and budding artists—all immersing themselves in the process and enjoying the freedom to express themselves. Some left with finished artworks to treasure, while others simply savoured the experience and the calming, creative connection to the ocean.

It was truly heartwarming how many people have deeply enjoyed the process of just being present. To all my students - I am so proud of you. It was an absolute joy to teach you!
